Winterize Your RV Water Heater
Introduction
As winter storms bring freezing temperatures across North America, it’s essential to winterize your Fogatti Tankless RV Water Heater to prevent freeze damage.
Frozen water inside the unit or plumbing can cause severe internal damage — but with proper precautions, you can keep your heater protected and ready for next season.
When the Temperature is Between 43°F (6°C) and 32°F (0°C)
● Keep both 12V DC power and propane gas connected.
● The built-in winter protection system will automatically ignite and maintain warmth inside the heater.
● The controller will display “Fd”, indicating that the heater is in automatic winter protection mode.
⚙️ This system can protect the heater itself down to approximately 14°F (–10°C ).
However, the external RV plumbing and water lines are not protected by this feature.
When outdoor temperatures approach 32°F (0°C) or below, we strongly recommend performing manual winterization to protect the entire system.
When the Temperature is Expected to Fall Below 14°F (–10°C)
—or when the heater will not be used for a long time, or when shore power is unavailable—you must winterize the water system manually to avoid freeze damage.
Manual Winterization Steps
1. Close the Optional System Shut-off Valve to isolate the fresh water tank.
2. Set the RV’s water inlet to City Water Connection, then attach a compressed air source (pressure not exceeding 43.5 PSI).
3. For each water outlet, set the mixer to Full Hot, open to drain completely, then close. Repeat in Full Cold position.
4. Prepare RV non-toxic antifreeze, and use the onboard water pump to draw it into the plumbing system.
5. Open each faucet again — first Full Hot, then Full Cold — until antifreeze flows out.
6. Once the system is completely filled with antifreeze, turn off the water pump.
7. Before the next use, flush the water system thoroughly to remove all antifreeze.
⚠️ Important Warranty Notice
